Our Purpose

Our purpose is to serve and minister in the communities of Dar es Salaam, Dodoma and primarily Zanzibar (Unguja Island). It is our desire to empower the local church and the community by assisting our Tanzanian Partners in addressing the extreme poverty in these regions. We accomplish this through humanitarian means such as medical missions, community health development, vital construction projects, and through our child sponsorship program in which we corporately provide for the nutritional, educational, emotional and spiritual needs of 103 children affected by HIV/AIDS.

Please join us for a fantastic evening at Crossroads this Sunday for our Tanzania Benefit Concert. All proceeds will go toward the medical clinic and related projects. Congratulations Doug and Melanie!

Our team members, Doug and Melanie, celebrated their marriage on July 12, 2008! Just got an email from Doug and they are having a glorious, romantic time. They are anchored just off the coast from Turkey waiting to begin the day and visit Peganum. They are meeting great people, making new friends and loving every minute of it. :)

Only 24 more days and counting...

Jambo! Our Visas arrived!! Only 24 more days left until we depart!!! Teamwork is essential to success and we have a great team.

At our last meeting on June 21 our entire team was present, except for Dahlia who will be flying in from Florida in a couple of weeks. I have posted a new team picture which includes Marsha and Savannah from Novato. Dahlia-dear, we'll just have to photo-shop you into this one until we all meet again on the other side!

Reminder: Savannah expressed a little concern about the mosquito-factor, but not to fear, insect repellent and malaria meds are key. ;) So, consider this a gentle reminder for all, please don't forget them or the Dramamine for the ferry ride. Last year some team members tried the various homeopathic methods on the market
(ginger candy, bracelets, etc.) to stave away sea-sickness and found out the hard way that they didn't work. :P

Big news, the medicines we ordered from the Netherlands are now paid for and the funds were wired last week. The meds will ship early next week to Tanzania for the medical clinic.

In II Corinthians 9:8 we read that, "God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work".

Many thanks to:

DougM and Melanie for leading the medical team and for meticulously packing and weighing the seven boxes of donated medical supplies and bringing them to San Jose from Modesto. We have just two more boxes to pack with our VBS materials and then we're finished.

Nimfa and Jocelyn for bringing the extra 'scrubs' for Suzanne with the "Zanzibar" print"! And, for your continuing commitment to drive up from San Diego for our team meetings! Wow! And, for volunteering your nursing expertise.

Cris, for volunteering your teaching skills and putting together the VBS materials and curriculum. And, for laboriously standing in front of the template-cutting-machine-thing for hours making masks for the children to decorate.

Marsha and Savannah for all of your excellent administrative help and for assigning each box to a team member and coordinating the numbering system between the boxes and passports. This will make identification much easier when checking in at the airport and when we arrive in Dar.

Dahlia --you are the prayer warrior for the team! Intercessory prayer is so vital. Many, many thanks! Please keep praying.

DougR and Suzanne for getting the internet cafe software ready for the computer learning center in Dar. Last year, Menlo Pres refurbished and donated 15 computers for the center. DougR and some of our 2007 team mates were instrumental in getting these set up for testing before we left and setting them up again in the center. The center will now serve a dual purpose --education and an internet cafe to earn additional support for ministry. Again, thank you DougR for your continuing commitment to the computer center. We couldn't do this without you.

Thank you Suzanne for putting together the CHE lessons! We can't wait to see how this unfolds as the "intake" process begins.
